How to choose a tour
The questions to ask before choosing between two similar trips.
Updated on October 4, 2026
1. Per person or per group?
Always check the unit: per person, per group, per boat, per vehicle, per hour. A per-boat price can be good value for a group, but it is not comparable with a per-person price.
2. What is included?
Each listing details, line by line: transport, meals, drinks, equipment, park entrance, guide, insurance and taxes. "Not specified" means the source does not say — ask.
3. How old is the price?
Each price shows its date and how it was checked. A price marked "to be reconfirmed" may have changed.
4. Conditions
Ask about cancellation, what happens if weather or sea conditions prevent the trip, and the deposit. Do not pay the full amount upfront to someone you do not know.
5. Language, group and level
Guide language, group size, minimum age and required level are all on the listing when the source states them.
6. Following the rules
For whales, the Ministry of Environment requires, among other things, a radio on board, no more than three boats watching at once and a time limit near the animals. Swimming with whales is prohibited in Samaná Bay.
