Coastal town on the north of the Samaná Peninsula and the starting point for most tours on this site.
The official tourism site describes Las Terrenas as one of the most dynamic destinations on the Samaná Peninsula, known for its white-sand beaches, cosmopolitan atmosphere and a cultural mix reflected in its restaurants, cafés and bars.
On the town beach (Playa Las Terrenas), fishermen's canoes share the sand with beachfront bars and hotels, and a boardwalk leads west to the Pueblo de los Pescadores.
When the 9-1-1 system was launched in Samaná province, two Dominican Navy boats were assigned to emergencies on the province's coasts and beaches: one on the Samaná city side and one on the Las Terrenas side.
The tourist security corps CESTUR (Cuerpo Especializado de Seguridad Turística) operates in the municipality of Las Terrenas.
